Linda was looking for a quiet, contemplative space for her daily yoga practice, so we cleared an unused, overgrown corner of her Steyning garden and built a 4.5m x 3m Panama studio. A full-length casement window and side-lights to the French doors let in plenty of light, the overhang has recessed LEDs, and the Thermowood cladding blends the room into the surrounding garden.

Planning permission in the Horsham district
Planning across the district is decided by Horsham District Council, except for homes inside the South Downs National Park, where the South Downs National Park Authority decides.
Steyning itself sits just outside the National Park, but around a third of the parish lies inside it. There the rules are tighter: a garden room at the side of a house needs planning permission, and buildings more than 20m from the house are limited to 10m² in total. We’ll check exactly which rules apply to your address at the free site survey.

The Panama is built in the same way as our Cube, with an additional 60cm overhang along the front and 3 recessed LEDs, giving you shelter from the rain and shade for the front of the room. Prices start from £17,704 including VAT and installation.
